POLITICS: No Individual Owns APC, Not Even Tinubu – Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu

In a strong message emphasizing collective ownership and unity within Nigeria’s ruling party, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dr. Benjamin Kalu, has stated clearly that no single individual owns the All Progressives Congress (APC) not even President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking in Umuahia, Abia State, during the APC ward congress on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Kalu addressed party stakeholders amid ongoing congress processes. He urged members to embrace harmony and cohesion to position the APC for success in the 2027 general elections.

Kalu stressed: “The APC is a collective platform owned by all its members. It is where everybody is given a sense of importance and relevance, where it will be made obvious that no one man will own the party not Benjamin Kalu, not anybody.” He further aligned his position with President Tinubu’s own vision, revealing that the President prefers referring to it as “our party” rather than “my party.”

According to Kalu, this reflects a shared commitment to internal democracy, inclusivity, and preventing any perception of personal domination.

The remarks come as the APC conducts harmonized ward and local government congresses nationwide, a strategy aimed at avoiding factional disputes and strengthening grassroots structures.

Kalu defended this approach as a deliberate decision by the party’s leadership under Tinubu to foster unity and fairness.

This statement reinforces the APC’s core principle that the party belongs to its millions of members across Nigeria, not to any one leader or influential figure. It serves as a reminder that sustainable political success depends on collective participation, not individual control.

As preparations intensify for future elections, Kalu’s call highlights the importance of unity in driving the APC’s renewed hope agenda forward.
