In a landmark move to strengthen troop welfare and reward the unwavering dedication of Nigeria’s military personnel, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved a significant salary increase of between 30 and 80 percent for members of the Armed Forces.
The new salary structure, which takes effect from September 1, will benefit approximately 250,000 military personnel across all service ranks.
Under the approved package:
- Officers above the rank of Colonel, including Brigadier Generals, Major Generals, Lieutenant Generals, and Generals, will receive a 30 percent salary increase.
- Personnel from Colonel to Warrant Officer will benefit from a 50 percent increase.
- Junior personnel, from Private to Staff Sergeant, will receive the highest adjustment with an 80 percent salary increase, reflecting the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of frontline troops.
The enhanced remuneration package will raise the annual personnel cost of the Armed Forces from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, underscoring the Federal Government’s resolve to invest meaningfully in the men and women who safeguard the nation’s sovereignty.
President Tinubu has consistently acknowledged the extraordinary courage, resilience, and sacrifices of Nigeria’s Armed Forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, and other security threats.
