In a fresh enforcement move, the Lagos State Government has sealed yet another public toilet facility for environmental pollution. On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) shut down a public toilet located on Savage Street, Ebute Metta, after confirming deliberate pumping of raw sewage directly into public drains.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared the update on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “The deliberate pumping of raw sewage into the public drain [resulted] in offensive odour and sewage flow within the community, constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution, and posing significant risks to human health.”
This latest sealing is part of the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward indiscriminate wastewater discharge, which continues to threaten public health, contaminate waterways, and fuel outbreaks of diseases like cholera in Africa’s most populous city.

This enforcement aligns with ongoing crackdowns across Lagos. Similar actions have recently targeted facilities in Lekki, Agege, Lagos Island, Idi-Araba, and more demonstrating the government’s commitment to a cleaner, healthier Lagos amid rapid urban growth.
Why This Matters for Lagos Residents
Illegal sewage discharge pollutes groundwater, clogs drainage systems during rains, and increases risks of waterborne illnesses. Proper septic maintenance, connection to approved systems, and responsible hygiene practices remain essential for everyone.
The Lagos State Government continues to emphasize: Environmental pollution will attract appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution.Stay updated via official sources like @tokunbo_wahab
