CRIME: Police Raid Illegal Drug Distribution Hub in Akwa Ibom, Nab 18 Suspects

In a decisive crackdown on drug-related crime, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully raided suspected illegal drug hotspots in Itu Local Government Area, arresting 18 suspects.

The operation, part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug distribution networks across the state, targeted known enclaves used for the sale and distribution of illicit substances.

Authorities recovered a significant quantity of suspected hard drugs during the raid, along with other incriminating items.

According to police sources, the swoop was intelligence-led and aimed at curbing the proliferation of narcotics, which authorities link to rising cases of cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in the region.

One key suspect identified in reports is George Timothy, alongside 17 others apprehended at the scene. The arrested individuals are currently in custody, undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.

Those found culpable will face prosecution. This latest action underscores the Akwa Ibom Police Command’s renewed commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and abuse. Commissioner of Police directives emphasize sustained, intelligence-driven operations to target dealers of Indian hemp, cocaine, and other prohibited substances.

The raid follows similar successful operations in areas like Ibaka and Itam, where dozens of suspects have been nabbed and large caches of illicit drugs seized in recent weeks.

Residents and stakeholders have commended the swift response, highlighting its positive impact on community safety and youth protection from drug influence.

The police have urged citizens to provide credible information on drug activities through anonymous channels to support these efforts.
